My Quick Story
I spent 20+ years in Corporate America. You know the drill…endless, mind-numbing meetings where it felt like all we

How I Built My First Website For Free
There are a lot of drag-and-drop website builders out there right now. And, I tried most of them. Some of them are actually pretty good. But, when it comes to running a small business, most of them have limitations. I wanted to learn how to build my site using WordPress, which powers the majority of business websites around the world. Not just small businesses but many well-known large companies use WordPress because of its functionality and flexibility.
I set out to learn about WordPress through YouTube videos, on-line courses, and even spent some money on web certification programs. While I did learn some stuff, it all seemed complicated and random, at best. I needed something that would walk me through the process step-by-step and explain the “why” behind what they were teaching. That’s when I discovered Wealthy Affiliate.

Wealthy Affiliate is the first program I found that walks you through the process of building your own WordPress website step-by-step. Even if you have zero technical / IT background, you will find this training incredibly easy. The easy-to-follow videos and documentation is well-designed and laid out for every learning style no matter if you’re a beginner or a total techie. You can literally have a functioning website up in minutes. Of course, you will need to add some content but Wealthy Affiliate walks you through how to create that as well.
The best news is that it’s totally FREE. You can build a website and host it at Wealthy Affiliate at no charge. They provide all the technical back-end tools that you need to get your site up and running. That is how I got my first website up. You will also learn all the tips and tricks of search engine optimization and how to get your website ranked in search engine results. That knowledge alone is priceless!
I eventually paid for a Premium membership which unlocked some more advanced training and features, but there is no obligation to do so. I find the Premium membership to be incredibly cheap considering all the tools and resources they provide, including hosting your website.

But, I’m Not Interested in Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is where you can promote products on your website (such as products on Amazon as an example) and you will get paid a commission if someone buys that product from your website. So, even if your goal is to build a website for your small business (like mine was) and you’re not really interested in affiliate marketing, Wealthy Affiliate is still a great resource for you.
My initial objective was to build a small business website but the information I learned about affiliate marketing opened my eyes up to a whole new revenue source. Knowledge is power and there are a lot of people making a lot of money with affiliate marketing. So, learn all you can. And, what do you have to lose, it’s free to try.

Wealthy Affiliate is a wonderful learning platform. I know that without WA, learning to put together and promote a website would be incredibly time consuming, frustrating and expensive!
I am going the Affiliate marketing route right now but have considered promoting my own business sometime in the future. I am a musician and artist so maybe I would promote my creations.

very informative post nice as your are experienced professional I got some question in mind to clear before stating affiliate marketing business. What feature do I need to purchase with domain name they offer many option I am confused with them. Is it compulsory to by domain name from hosting provider? Secondly from whom I will purchase ssl certificate from domain registrar or hosting service.

My apologies for not replying sooner to your comment. I’m a huge fan of Wealthy Affiliate and have been a member for years. I’ve learned so much from their training, live seminars, etc. As for your domain name, ssl cert, etc., all of that can be purchased through Wealthy Affiliate. They really are a one-stop-shop. You could also buy your domain from another domain registrar (like GoDaddy) and can host it there or you can move it to a platform like Wealthy Affiliate to host. It’s really up to you. You do not need to host your website where you buy the domain. You have a lot of choices on what you can do with it. Hope that helps a bit. Let me know if I can provide more clarity for you.
